"One interpersonal party problem at a time" is a very good summary for this page. You can compare it to a conversation among several people. If you all speak up at once, there's just gonna be noise.

Yeah that was one of my biggest issues with what was going on, it was all happening at once and no one was really focused on anything but themselves. In text it doesn't translate well but I could see it sounding like a school cafeteria.....or the anchovie swarm from spongbob.

Now...is AJ still lying in that last panel? ;)

Man, I've seen that last AJ expression used as a meme so many times I don't even know if this panel is an edit or not...

"Ablative layer"
Now there's a term I haven't heard in quite a while.

I can totally buy Rarity playing Champions/HERO.

hm, I have heard it relatively recently.
then again I *am* playing battletech with its ablative armor and ablative layers of powerarmor infantry attached to your mech.

For me, Ablative Layer brings to mind the Space Shuttle and rocket technology used at the coast.

The last time I heard the word Ablative, the U.S.S. Defiant was Slapping the crap out of the Dominion.

You know, those last few pages would have been a golden opportunity to use that episode where Pinkie, AJ and Rarity go Rashomon over who ruined their boat trip.

Though Newbiespud did a great job with the chosen screenshots

I've gone to about 3 sessions in my new group. I already got a magic spear with instructions to keep it out of the hands (or talons) of a gryphon sorcerer (oh, and my character is also a Gryphon), and a follower named Lucifer (I opened a bottle that looked like it had a scroll).

What I say here my be unpopular what with the divisive issue of DsDM, but if there're problems with players roleplaying during a roleplaying game, then something's wrong.

... And after saying the above, I now have to add the following: How many roles can a roleplayer play if a roleplayer could play roles?
Sani2341 18th Dec 2018, 4:46 PM edit delete reply
Sani2341
well the answer to that depends on the System and character build.

i.e. Sidereals in Exalted have a base class feature that let's them Play all the roles (not as in party-roles, but pretending to be everyone)

Man the fun I had running some exalted games where all the obviously unrelated travelign Merchants where the same guy keeping taps on the Group.

Well the problem the roleplaying caused was the whole party pretty much stopped trying to progress at all and just would have stood in the same spot repeating their lines verbatam unless Twilight had dragged them along.

Roleplaying is fine, until it take an hour and a half to move into the next room because everyone is trying to make themselves the center of attention in a vicious cycle.

"We get it Rarity, you want to **** the rock, can you please check for traps now?!" "DIAMOND!" "I don't care!" "I'm going to touch the rock..." "Don't touch my diamond!" *sighs and slams head down on table as everyone starts playing out the same joke setup again.....for the fifth time...*

Here's an example for your argument--I'm in a PbP game where the party had been given one in-game week deadline to finish RPs and little side questing so that we can go attack the BBEG's fortress.

That was nine months ago real time.

Yesterday we finally reached the fortress. And it wasn't due to slow posting. It was all the RPing we did that took up so much time.

We once spent 30 minutes right inside the lair of a green dragon because the rest of the party wouldn't stop RPing. Finally the dragon just attacked us outright because even the GM was trying to help me drag the party into the door and finally got fed up with them refusing to stop talking.

Yeah, Rarity explicitly mentions "ability to work" as something that was hampered by everyone going too ham on their curse roleplaying.

I love the implication that Discord "won" by giving them all exactly what they wanted, in a way they didn't realize they didn't want.

AJ wanted a meta-puzzle to solve.
Rarity wanted an act to play.
Pinkie wanted a joke to tell.
Flutters wanted the freedom to speak.
Dash wanted something to beat.

All except for Twilight, who wanted to beat the game in one move, and couldn't.

It's telling that Twilight was the only one not having fun.
